I stumbled upon golf by chance when a colleague, Dwyane, gave me a ride home from work. As we passed the Algonkian Driving Range (now replaced by homes since October 9, 2018), he suggested we hit some golf balls. I laughed, saying, "Boy please! Black women don’t play golf," but he convinced me to try. At the range, Dwyane patiently taught me the basics—how to hold the club, distances for each, keeping my BIG head down, and eyes on the ball. Surprisingly, I hit my first good shot that day, I got hooked. A week later, I bought a set of Wilson clubs from Walmart for under $200 and returned to practice, getting helpful tips from kind strangers and Dwyane along the way.
